Wildcats 2010/11 Season

Following an unbeaten pre-season of five games and five wins, Wildcats season started on 11 December 2010 against Walbottle and ended against the same girls on 7 May 2011.

In the twelve games played, we scored 70 goals and had 14 scored against us, winning 10, drawing 1 and losing 1. Every Wildcat player scored during the league matches and five of the girls were ever present.

Some of the highlights were the five nil victory of last seasons champions, Newbiggin Hall All Stars which started with a goal after only thirteen seconds by Lauren; a goal from her own half against Longhoughton by Caz; a very hard fought victory against Blyth Town, after they had beaten us in the cup semi-final.

The only two low points, were the losing game against Newbiggin Hall All Stars when we just could not seem to get started, and the cup defeat to Blyth Town which we should have won if we had been able to take our chances.

The Wildcats players who performed so well and won the first bit of silverware for Bedlington Town FC within a year of its founding were (in alphabetical order):-

Alice: Alice is fast, and has a never say die attitude on the football pitch. She never knows when she is beaten and will chase balls which other players give up as a lost cause. She is brave and hard working and gets her fair share of goals for the team.

Bella: Bella is a fast and skillful left sided midfielder/forward, who is able to provide good width on her wing. She is fast and tricky and has a good eye for goal. Bella works hard for the team and is technically very good indeed. Bella suffered with a broken wrist and missed some of our games.

Caz: One of the original Wildcats, Caz is a natural, steady defender with an eye for a pass when bringing the ball out of defence. She is able to play a more forward role when necessary and scored a fantastic goal from her own half of the pitch which flew past the 'keeper into the top corner of the net.

Ellie: Ellie has a determination in mid field, which means that she will never give up fighting for the ball and is a constant threat to opposition forwards. Ellie is also a very capable sweeper when necessary, strengthening the defence at times when we are under pressure. Another of the original girls.

Erin: Erin joined us at the end of last season, and has proved to be a great addition to the squad. She is able to play at the top of the defensive diamond, but is happier further upfield where she has chipped in with some very good goals. Solid technique and a determined attitude show through in her play.

George: George is another of the originals and is a strong, solid left sided defender with an eye for goal when she is asked to play further forward. She has an excellent and accurate long throw which is a great weapon in the Wildcats armoury, and when called upon she is a very reliable last line of defence.

Lauren: Lauren is our leading goal scorer and the fourth of our originals. She has a powerful shot in both feet and a very fast turn of speed to go with the excellent technique and ball control which make her such a handful for opposition defenders. Lauren will also help out in defence when necessary and works hard for the team.

Mazie: Mazie is a powerful right sided midfielder or forward with a fierce shot and very fleet of foot. She is strong on the ball and capable of delivering a good cross from her wing. Another of our players with an eye for goal, Mazie also has a very strong throw-in and an equally strong work rate.

Moley: Moley is our reluctant goal keeper. She is very brave and will not shirk away from putting herself at risk of being hurt when going for the ball. Moley is serious about her goal keeping and takes it personally if opponents have the audacity to score against her. When playing up front, she has also boosted the goals for column.

Thank you all for a very enjoyable season of football. You won the league because you were the best team, and Wildcat supporters would like you to know that you have provided us with some wonderful memories this year. We can now look forward to next season and the defence of our title, or for new challenges for the young ladies of Bedlington Town Wildcats.
