Forget the FA cup final at Wembley, forget the Champions League cup final, today all roads lead to Hirst Welfare in Ashington for the final of the NGFL under 13s league cup.
We had already beaten Cramlington twice in the league, but they had improved their squad since those early games and although we would be considered as favourites to lift the cup, we would need to work hard and play our confident, fast attacking football if we were to add some silverware to our very encouraging season.

On the day we were supposed to be playing in the league cup final before it was cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch, we were able to fit in the outstanding game against the Pumas on their sloping pitch.
This game was one which both teams needed to win, Pumas to win the league title on their own and Wildcats to have a chance of sharing the title. We knew that this would be the most difficult game of the season as the Pumas had only lost one game (against North Shields) and had only conceded nine goals in their seventeen games so far. We would need to be at our best and to match both their physicality and their skill levels if we were to continue our winning streak, and once again we had a full squad of players available for the game even though it had been arranged at short notice. Great commitment girls!!

Following the two attempts to play Ashington Angels being postponed because of a waterlogged pitch, the weather had dried up sufficiently to allow the Bedlington Town derby against the Tigers to go ahead. We are normally a little slow to get started again after a lay-off and as we had not played since the defeat of Monty Jags on 31st March, we could not afford to relax in this game if we wanted to remain in contention to share the league title, as we need to win the remaining four games of our season as we cannot expect either North Shields or Monty Pumas to drop any points.

We woke up to a cold and blustery Saturday, ready for the trip into Newcastle for what promised to be another hard game in our quest for the league title. All games are important at this time of the season and although we had beaten the Jaguars in both league and cup games so far, neither game was easy and we knew we were in for a tough game again.

After last weeks win in a friendly match (and cup final rehearsal!) we were back in league action with a game against Ashington Angels. We have not played Ashington so far this season, and they have quite a good record so far, so we would need to be at our best if we were to take the points and maintain our challenge for the league title.

Saturday was cup semi final day, and we were away to North Shields for the right to Play Cramlington Town in the final on 28th April. We have already soundly beaten Cramlington Town twice this season, so the winners of the clash against North Shields would seem to be the favourites to lift the cup.

We woke this morning to a cold but frost free day, and the good news that we had a Wildcats game to watch for only the second time this year. The Bedlington Town derby between the Tigers and the Wildcats was moved to The Hartlands as the grass was longer than the pitch at the High School and this enabled the game to go ahead.
We have known the Tigers since the formation of Wildcats, but this was to be the first competitive game between the teams although some of the previous training encounters had seen the Tigers coming out on top; that was two years ago however and we were ready to make the most of the chance to close the gap at the top of the league and both Monty Pumas and North Shields games were cancelled.

It seems like a lot more than four weeks since we last played, but after a postponed game and the holiday period, we were at home to North Shields in the league. Shields are arguably the best team in the league, and we had a great game against them at the start of the season which ended four goals each (We were awarded the game 1 - 0 because of an admin error)

For the second week running, we were up against the Jaguars on our home pitch. We notched up a good win against today's opponents in the cup last week, but they were able to field a stronger team this week and we could not take anything for granted. Monty Jags are a big strong set of girls who would be able to steamroller a lot of teams in our league, but last week proved that we are the better footballing side and we would need to outplay them rather than out muscle them again.

It was cup Saturday for the Wildcats and with the top four teams in the league having been drawn against each other, we knew that we were in for a hard game against the Jaguars, for a place in the last four of the competition. We had yet to meet today's opponents so far this season, but would be seeing quite a bit of them in the next two weeks as we face them at home again on 10th December in a league match.
